12 Hours in Boston, MA
Last Thursday, I took a hectic one day trip to Boston to visit schools in the area and get a feel for the city. The plan was to fly out at 7:20am and back at 7pm -- like the trips senior bankers make all the time! (Since the experience, I now appreciate how tough traveling like this is...)
Here's a quick recap on my adventure in Boston.
I was a bit ambitious and bought tickets for a 7:20am flight. Unfortunately on that day I didn't wake up until my plane was taking off =X After the initial panic, I was able to get onto the next flight. BUT fortunately, because I missed my flight, I ended up standing next to SEAN CONNERY at the Jet Blue check-in line! I guess even celebrities Jet! I first noticed because this lady was trying to skip the line, claiming that she was looking for a lady named Jocelyn. When she said the name, the guy suddenly acknowledged that they were "special" guests or something. Being nosy, I looked at them and their stuff and saw this huge golf bag with "SEAN CONNERY" embroidered on it! I would have never looked at him otherwise since he's so tall and I don't look up that high most of the time haha. That was the highlight of my day! Here is my paparazzi style pic (can you tell? it's the guy that's 1 foot taller than everyone else)
My initial impression of the BC area was that it was very calm and serene. I am not sure if it's because I've lived in New York for almost 2 years now and before that Berkeley, which I think is decently urban, or because my only form of transportation was walking/bus/T, but I started to feel a sense of suffocation after a couple hours there... Definitely something I need to work on if I am ever going to move into the suburbs again! I think having a car would help a lot though.
Towards the end of the day, it was starting to get cold/windy (drastic change from the 90 degree weather the day before people said). I felt like just going to the airport early, but with the push from my boyfriend I decided to get off the T at the transfer point to the airport (Government Center). The lady on the train said this area was worth seeing because of some famous hall (Faneuil Hall) and it turned out that Quicy Market was there too!!
In 15 minutes, I walked as quickly as I would in New York if I were late for an appointment and walked through the market, bought a Yankee candle and saw the Cheers bar!
After that, I rushed off back onto the T and jetted back to NYC!
Overall impression of Boston was kind of "eh" but I know I was only there for a few hours and had some bad experiences, including a random man singing to me about if I believed in interracial love and following me to the subway station. I am still undecided on if I'd want to live there for three years! Anyone live in Boston and have reasons you think I'd enjoy it there?
With that, I'd like to conclude w/ a funny photo. Guess what's in the bottle (definitely not orange soda)!
