NYC: Bagels and Lox Tuesday

This morning, we had a big potluck breakfast at work. When people walk by the conference room wondering what we were celebrating, we joking told them that it was in celebration of the markets (down 7% since last Monday as of this morning ugh). The real reason was just that my coworker had leftover fresh smoked salmon that he needed help finishing off.

After much deliberation, we decided to get the best of the best from various locations in NYC to eat with this fresh smoked salmon.

I took a 7am journey to H and H Bagels to get their much talked about fresh bagels. The store is in this industrial looking area on 48th and 12th Ave / West Side Highway, nestled between a car wash (apparently where all the cabs and black cars in Midtown go to get clean) and a place that sells Halal meat (it also looks like where the carts go to sleep at night). Once you open the door of H and H you can already smell the bagel-ey goodness. Although it's definitely a pick up and go kind of place with no seating and no AC, the bagels are worth the trip. They have a pretty good selection, including ~8-10 different types of bagels and even bialys! These bagels don't even need toasting too because they are SO fresh. H and H makes batches all day and all night long (yes, they are open 24 hours a day!).

On the opposite side of town in the Lower East Side, my coworker went to Russ and Daughters to get delicious scallion cream cheese, horseradish cream cheese and this special smoke salmon and whitefish spread. He said they have delicious bagels too, but we wanted to try H and H today. Together with the fresh smoked salmon and a Starbucks coffee traveler and OJ, it indeed was a perfect Tuesday morning bagels and lox breakfast!

I know summer is just around the corner, but live a little and have a bagel breakfast soon too! Here are some of my team's favorite Manhattan bagel joints!
