Oh Summer Nights (and Days)!
When the temperatures rise in NYC, people sure get excited! I do too now that 5 out of 12 months of bad weather confine me to my apartment or running/cabbing/subwaying from one location to the next.
Last weekend was the first NICE summer weekend this year. Although I spent both days at work for part of the day, I went to a couple new places perfect for those summer days and nights ahead!
The Biergarten at the Standard Hotel
As one of the only beer gardens in Manhattan, the biergarten was very crowded! I was expecting some attitude since it's in the middle of the Meatpacking district but everyoe was very friendly and chill. After a short wait, they let us in to the cafeteria style courtyard. Draft beers, sausages (all different kinds served with saurkraut) and preztels can be purchased by buying $8 tickets at the door. The place felt super authentic since all the beer girls were tall blonde and seemed to be imported from Germany (accents and all!). Def a chill place to drink the day away! In the back, they even have ping pong tables (for real ping pong though, not beer pong =P) I definitely want to go back sometime this summer! I heard about another beer garden in Astoria. Anyone been? Is it Bohemian Hall?

For the nocturnal folk who still want to enjoy the great (urban) outdoors, Press Lounge in the ink48 hotel just opened in the Hells Kitchen area (11th avenue and 48th street). I know most people don't venture past 8th/9th ave, but these views MAY be worth it (keep reading to find out why it's a MAY).
Press Lounge is a rooftop bar that caters to those that like the luxury of "ultra lounges" but hate all the hassle of bottle service type venues. It's a first come first serve lounge with lots of couches and sofas where you can just hang out and enjoy the magnificent views.
Now here's the disclaimer... It's very new... New as in "we ran out of Patron", new as in serving shots out of large plastic tumblers, make people wait in the lobby to go upstairs when no one is there.. And new as in give your customers sugar with their tequila instead of salt! And *gasp* they close at 2am!!
Anyway, after they closed and with not much else to do in the area, we headed to our usual after drinks spot, chicken and rice!
