Jessica's Travel Wishlist: African Safari
I'm going to begin tracking my dream vacations so I can refer back to this when I have the time and money to take them =P
Why is this on the "Wish I Could Go" list? Just the international airfare to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania is around $1,200 + the $3-4k for the actual safari itself! Gotta start saving!
I found African Dream Safaris through google. They specialize in private customized safaris in Serengeti National Park and were voted 2009 "best safari outfitter" by National Geographic. That seems to be enough validation for their legit-ness, but they also have a website and marketing materials to back it up. A few days after I submitted an online form, I got a fancy schmancy brochure including a DVD in the mail. They really know how to get you! Not sure if all the advertising and marketing ups the cost (but I'm sure it does), since the total for budget loding for 4 is around $4500 a person (not including int'l airfare) (ouch). (their amazing photo gallery)
This fancy marketing makes me think it's overpriced, but for now I will indulge in the dream!

Africa Travel Resource is another travel company that my associate used to book his honeymoon. Their website is a little harder to navigate/understand, but they seem to have a really wide range of itineraries available and they also customize based on your budget, preferences for places to visit, animals to see, etc. In their "About Us" section, they said they have booked safaris for as much as $250k for a family and their minimum is $500.
TripAdvisor article with tons more resources on planning a Tanzanian safari that I will check out once this trip is closer to reality...
I have been starting to plan my vacations after I finish my two year program and my dad brought up that he's always wanted to go to Africa. Although we probably can't go this year because the World Cup propelling the skyrocketing of prices, I did request information on African safaris in Tanzania and I am hooked! This is something I DEFINITELY want to do eventually! This would bring to life the hours of nature documentaries I used to watch about the African Serengeti and imagine the awesome pictures I could take!
