NYC: Weekend Guide (9/17)
I hope everyone has been having a good week so far! Even if you haven't, TGIF! =)
This week has been great for me since Jing was here through Tuesday night. We finally checked some things off our "must do in New York list" like visit the Top of the Rockefeller Center! I would recommend going up there if you haven't gone up to that or the Empire State Building. It really makes you appreciate how big and grand Manhattan is!
Anyway, I wanted to quickly post about a few events this weekend and also just some ideas of fun things to do in the city. If you guys like this, maybe I'll try to do it every Thursday!
Also, I will apologize in advance if I don't update as often for the next month -- the test date is approaching, so my "adventures" will probably be limited to visiting various Starbucks and trying their soy lattes (I'm sure no one is interested in that =P).
Have a great weekend everyone!

Saturday, September 18th - Urban Dare NY
I did this scavenger hunt / race in May for my birthday and it was so fun! They give you hints that lead you to locations all over and winners usually finish in under 2 hours. The prizes are pretty good (1st place is trip to Bahamas). Even if you don't win (or get close to winning), it's a great way to learn little hidden facts about the city and things you see all the time.
Jing and I finished in 5th place last time in 2:32. We're not participating in it this time, but my roommate Janice and her bf are going again. Good luck guys -- get first place!
For those not in New York, they are hosting Urban Dares in LA on Oct 2nd and in Philadelphia Oct 23rd!
Sunday, September 19th - The Good Food Fest
There's going to be a gourmet food festival in the Meatpacking District this Sunday! I SO want to be there, but not sure if I'll get there in time after my class. Anyway, anyone else who is free should check it out! Some notable restaurants include: Colicchio & Sons, Gramercy Tavern and Minetta Tavern. The festival is supposed to promote local sourcing of food.
Anyway, since it's the 1st event, I wouldn't buy tickets in advance... Last time, I went to that 1st annual Meatopia festival and it was so poorly organized that my friends and I barely got to try any food and had to ask to get our money refunded! I would advise stopping by and seeing if it's worth buying tickets before committing.
Lastly, anytime a sugar craving hits...Visit Economy Candy in the Lower East Side
Growing up, I never really had much candy... Even on Halloween, my mom would take all our candy and ration it to us over the rest of the year (usually though, the bugs got to it by Thanksgiving, so we never really had much haha). Ever since Gregor told me about this place (see post here on his LES neighborhood guide), I've been dying to go! Jing and I went this last weekend and the place is AWESOME! All this candy from all over the world, right in this tiny tiny shop!
We restrained ourselves to a few items: chocolate hazelnut seashell/seahorses, sunkist gems, sour tape and Willy Wonka nerds and "waterfall" bar =)
Go explore for yourself!

The final view up top -- beautiful! (Unfortunately, Jing and I only had our phone cameras!) |

They sell nuts too! |
Famous people that have visited |
They have 3 rows of Jelly Bellys -- I realized I don't like them that much =X |
They have gummy bears by like 5lb bags in different flavors! Look at these orange ones omg |
While you're down there, might as well stop by Chinatown too and try the hand pulled noodles and delicious dumplings at Lan Zhou Noodle -- it's the same chain/store (I think) as the one we tried in our Flushing Food Tour!
